No same day twice

Gábor Király spent only six days at the Gilicze farm, bit the experiences he gained there will remain forever. As a sociologist, he was looking at the countryside and people living there with scientific curiosity.

“There is some scientific interest in me about the countryside and people trying to make a living there, and I want to know as much as I can about them. And I want to gain my knowledge by personal experience, and not by reading books. From this aspect, every minute of the week was useful and worthwhile, it matched a half-year university course” - said Gábor Király from Budapest. He spent six days at the farm of Zsolt Gilicze near Hódmezővásárhely, where the border of private property is indicated with a grumpy dog and a barrier. “Zsolt and his father, Feri, are taking turns at staying out at the homestead to guard it. At the first day, we didn't even think about that next week, Dénes and I will spend the most time here. In retrospect, I can only say that this schedule which allows no expediency or relax is respectable, by which they spend their lives” – remembers Gábor Király about his host. There is no time to waste, something always needs to be done, but there are no two days which would be the same, it is not repeating an endless job, but ut us a creative one which takes into account every subtle change of the animals, nature and weather. Gábor was able to try out a lot of tasks: the most energetic was making bales and building stacks, and the most memorable were the somewhat autonomously done ones with machinery such as disking or rolling. “Nonetheless, besides getting to know how the farm works and trying out different tasks, the greatest experiences were our discussions. We didn't always agree, but this only made this conversations more exciting, during which we got to know each other's lives. The family stories, the presentation of the farming circumstances, the discussions about the news of the world and our country remain the most memorable moments.”
